Winsor / Chamisa Trail Work - National Public Lands Day

National Public Lands Day

What: Winsor / Chamisa Trail Work Day - NPLD
When: Sat., Sept., 30, 8:45 am to 1 pm
Where: Chamisa Trailhead on Hyde Park Rd.

Come to the SFFTS Public Lands Day work party this Saturday, September 30th, at the Chamisa trailhead. There will be t-shirts for all participants and great raffle prizes of a new camelback hydration pack, $20 gift certificates from Bike n Sport, and other cool stuff. Lots of clif bar products that were donated to keep trail workers energized.

We'll split into two groups. One will work on the lower/western Chamisa trail, about a mile from the trailhead, creating grade reversals and repairing erosion damage. The second group will work on the Winsor trail, above the last bridge on the lower Winsor, continuing the work begun in August to raise the trail tread above the water level of the Big Tesuque creek The second group will be approx. 3.5 miles from the trailhead so if you're interested with helping out on the Winsor project consider bringing your bike or be prepared for 7 miles of hiking.

Meet at 8:45am at the Chamisa trail head for sign-in, safety talk and raffle prizes, with a planned departure of 9am. We plan on being back at the lot at 3pm, unless we get chased earlier by rain. Wear long pants, long sleeves, sturdy boots and bring gloves, water and lunch/snacks. Current forecast is for a 30% chance rain so consider bringing rain gear and/or sunscreen.

Lunch will be provided and work hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers should wear long sleeves, long pants, above-ankle non-skid boots and leather gloves to protect them from terrain that can be thorny and rocky. Please bring a backpack with sunscreen and at least two quarts of water. Tools and hard hats will be provided by the Santa Fe National Forest.
